How Does IMA Manage Sourcing, Delivery & Supply-Chain Risk?

IMA manages supplier qualification, material sourcing, traceability, inventory, logistics, and supply-chain risk through defined processes and customer-specific requirements. Our Tijuana, Mexico manufacturing location supports cross-border logistics to the United States as well as distribution throughout Mexico.

1. Supplier Qualification & Component Sourcing

  • Approved Supplier Qualification
    Suppliers are evaluated and approved by IMA based on applicable project and customer requirements. Evaluation criteria may include manufacturer authorization, required certifications, quality performance, pricing, supplier location, lead time, and minimum order quantity (MOQ).
  • Component Authenticity & Counterfeit Risk Mitigation
    IMA sources components through authorized distributors and directly from manufacturers to reduce counterfeit-component risk.

2. Material Traceability & Inventory Control

  • Lot & Material Traceability
    Materials are traceable by supplier lot throughout applicable material-control and production processes.
  • Customer-Approved Substitutions
    Material or component substitutions require customer approval and are controlled through drawing revisions or formal deviation processes, as applicable.
  • Customer-Supplied Materials
    IMA supports customer-supplied and customer-consigned materials based on agreed project requirements. Customer-consigned material remains the property of the customer.
  • Safety Stock & Inventory Programs
    Safety stock and customer-specific inventory programs are available based on mutually agreed customer requirements and inventory levels.

3. Supply-Chain Risk Management

  • Obsolescence & End-of-Life Management
    IMA monitors supplier notifications and sourcing activity for component obsolescence and end-of-life conditions. When an affected component is identified, IMA evaluates the impacted products and notifies the customer.
  • Material Shortage Communication
    When a material shortage is identified, IMA communicates the issue to the customer and may provide options such as delivery-date adjustments, alternative materials subject to customer approval, or expedited sourcing with applicable additional costs.

    The customer determines the preferred course of action.
  • Business Continuity & Contingency Planning
    IMA maintains contingency plans based on risk analysis to support business continuity and response to potential operational disruptions.
  • IT Backup & Disaster Recovery
    IMA maintains a multi-layer data backup and recovery strategy. Critical systems are replicated locally on an hourly basis and backed up to an off-site cloud environment every two hours through a third-party service provider. Additional geographically redundant cloud backups support disaster-recovery and business-continuity requirements.
  • Backup Equipment for Critical Processes
    Backup equipment is available for selected critical processes based on operational risk and process requirements.

4. Cross-Border Logistics & Delivery

  • U.S. Cross-Border Logistics
    IMA manages the cross-border logistics process from its Tijuana, Mexico manufacturing facility to the United States. Finished products are transferred to San Diego, California for distribution to U.S. customers.
  • U.S. Distribution & Transit Time
    U.S. customer shipments are distributed from San Diego, California. Typical transit time is 1–7 days, depending on destination and shipping method. Same-day delivery is possible for select California customers.
  • Mexico Distribution
    IMA supports direct distribution from its Tijuana facility to customers throughout Mexico. Where applicable, virtual customs procedures are used to support domestic delivery without physically routing the goods through the United States.

5. Inventory Ownership & Customs Responsibilities

  • Inventory Ownership
    Customer-consigned material remains the property of the customer. Materials purchased by IMA remain IMA property until ownership is transferred according to applicable commercial terms.
  • Customs Responsibilities
    IMA manages applicable customs processes for cross-border shipments. Associated customs costs are passed through to the customer according to agreed commercial terms.

Quality & Testing
Every assembly is electrically tested for continuity, opens, shorts, and miswires. IMA’s quality-control process also includes dimensional inspection, crimp height and pull-force
verification, material traceability, and final inspection.
